Christy Nockels
1969– · USA · Contemporary
Christy Nockels was born in 1969 in the United States and developed her musical gifts within evangelical Christian communities from an early age. She pursued formal musical training and began her ministry career in congregational worship leading, eventually becoming one of the most recognized female voices in the contemporary Christian worship movement. She is married to Nathan Nockels, a prominent music producer, and the two have collaborated closely throughout her career. Nockels rose to widespread prominence as a founding member of Passion Conferences worship team and later as one-half of the duo Watermark, alongside her husband. Through Passion, she performed and recorded alongside figures such as Chris Tomlin, Louie Giglio, and David Crowder, helping to shape the sound of a generation of evangelical worship. Her vocal style—characterized by warmth, intimacy, and expressiveness—became a model for worship leaders in charismatic and evangelical traditions. She has also released several solo albums that reflect a more contemplative and lyrically rich approach to worship songwriting. Her compositions frequently explore themes of God's faithfulness, rest in divine presence, and the posture of surrender. Songs such as 'Lamb of God' and 'Be Lifted High' have found use in congregational settings beyond her immediate evangelical context. In recent years, Nockels has focused her ministry through Keeper of the Stars, an initiative aimed at encouraging and equipping worship leaders. Nockels's contribution to contemporary hymnody lies particularly in her integration of emotional authenticity with theological substance. Her work has influenced worship practice in evangelical, charismatic, and increasingly ecumenical settings across the United States and internationally.
