ELW Setting
2006– · USA · Contemporary
ELW Setting refers to the collaborative liturgical work of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) represented in the Evangelical Lutheran Worship hymnal published in 2006. The ELW settings include musical arrangements and English paraphrases of traditional Christian liturgical texts, including the Nunc Dimittis (Song of Simeon) from the Gospel of Luke. This work represents a modern synthesis of ancient Christian tradition with contemporary Lutheran theology and musical sensibilities. The 2006 edition draws upon centuries of hymnodic and liturgical heritage while presenting these texts in accessible English for 21st-century worship. The ELW settings have become standard resources for Lutheran congregations seeking to balance historical liturgical practice with modern accessibility.
