Karg-Elert
Sigfrid Karg-Elert (1877–1933) was a prominent German composer and organist who made significant contributions to both organ music and sacred vocal works. He studied at the Leipzig Conservatory and became known for his innovative harmonies and colorful orchestration, which influenced early 20th-century church music. Karg-Elert composed numerous organ works, chorale arrangements, and liturgical pieces that expanded the harmonic vocabulary of German Protestant church music. His works for organ in particular earned him recognition as a leading figure in the modern organ music movement, and his compositions remain important in the church music repertoire. As a teacher and composer, he bridged the gap between Romantic organ tradition and early modernist musical language.
