Paul Manz

Paul Manz (1919-2009) was an American Lutheran organist and composer who became one of the most significant figures in twentieth-century Protestant church music. He served as organist at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Minneapolis for over fifty years, where he developed a distinctive compositional style blending Lutheran chorales with contemporary harmonic language. Manz composed numerous organ works, choral pieces, and hymn settings that became standard repertoire in Lutheran and other Protestant churches throughout North America. His compositions are characterized by craftsmanship, spiritual depth, and an ability to honor traditional hymnody while employing modern techniques. He remains a central figure in American Lutheran musical heritage and influenced generations of church musicians.
