RENDEZ A DIEU takes its name from the opening words of the French versification of Psalm 98, 'Rendez à Dieu louange et gloire' ('Render to God praise and glory'), and first appeared in the 1543 Genevan Psalter. This edition, sometimes called the 'Cinquante Pseaumes,' was a pivotal expansion of the Reformed psalter project that John Calvin had initiated at Strasbourg in 1539.
