Beautiful Savior, King of creation, Son of God and Son of Man
A hymn of lyrical praise to Christ as the most beautiful of all — more beautiful than meadows, woodlands, sunshine, and moonlight. The comparison of Christ's beauty with the beauty of creation is the devotional center. The final stanza is a doxological cry of praise to the Son of God and Son of Man.
History & Background
Originally a German Silesian folk song Schönster Herr Jesu, first published in the Münster Gesangbuch of 1677. Translated into English by Joseph August Seiss (1823-1904) in 1873. The tune CRUSADERS' HYMN is the traditional Silesian melody.
