Prudentius (348-413) was a Spanish Christian poet and theologian of the Latin patristic tradition, widely regarded as one of the greatest Latin Christian poets of his era. After serving in administrative positions under Roman emperors, he devoted himself to Christian literary work, producing influential theological poetry including the Psychomachia and Peristephanon. His hymns and religious verse were notable for their sophisticated literary style, theological depth, and celebration of Christian martyrs and virtues. Prudentius's works became foundational to Christian liturgical tradition and significantly influenced the development of Latin hymnody in the medieval Church.
