Bernard of Cluni (also known as Bernard of Morlas) was an 11th-century French Benedictine monk and Latin poet who made significant contributions to medieval hymnody. A member of the influential Cluniac order, he is primarily remembered for composing Victimae Paschali laudes, one of the most important sequences of the medieval liturgy, which celebrates the resurrection of Christ with theological depth and poetic beauty. His Latin poetry exemplified the high standard of liturgical composition during the Benedictine reform movement, blending classical learning with Christian devotion. Bernard's works were widely adopted throughout medieval Christendom and remain significant examples of the Latin hymnic tradition. His influence on the development of Easter liturgy and medieval ecclesiastical music extends throughout the subsequent centuries of Christian worship.
