Carl Boberg (1859-1940) was a Swedish Lutheran pastor, missionary, and prolific hymn writer who became one of Scandinavia's most influential hymnodists. He served as editor of the religious periodical Opp och Fram (Up and Forward) and was deeply committed to evangelism and the creation of accessible, theologically sound hymns for congregational singing. Boberg is best known internationally for his hymn "O Store Gud" (O Mighty God), written in 1885, which was translated into English as "How Great Thou Art" and became one of the most beloved Christian hymns worldwide. His compositions reflected the Swedish Lutheran tradition while embracing the evangelical fervor of late 19th-century Scandinavian Christianity. Boberg's legacy extends far beyond his native Sweden, as his hymns have been translated into numerous languages and continue to be sung in churches globally.
