Carl Schalk
Carl Schalk (1929–2021) was an influential American composer, organist, and music educator who made significant contributions to Lutheran church music in the twentieth century. He served as director of music at Concordia University Chicago and composed numerous hymn tunes, organ works, and choral pieces that became widely used in Lutheran and ecumenical worship. Schalk was known for his ability to blend traditional Lutheran musical heritage with contemporary compositional techniques, creating accessible yet artistically sophisticated church music.
