Caroline Maria Noel (1817-1877) was an English hymnodist and Anglican churchwoman whose theologically rich devotional verse significantly contributed to Victorian hymnody. She composed over 100 hymns and published several collections that reflected the theological currents of the Oxford Movement and Anglican Tractarianism. Her hymns are characterized by their doctrinal depth, lyrical quality, and focus on personal devotion and the Christian life. Noel's work was influential in shaping the hymn repertory of the Church of England during the nineteenth century, and many of her compositions remain in use in Anglican and other Protestant worship today.
