Charles Porterfield Krauth (1823-1883) was a prominent American Lutheran pastor, theologian, and hymn writer who profoundly influenced Lutheran hymnody in the nineteenth century. He served as professor at the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia and was instrumental in developing the theological and liturgical identity of American Lutheranism.
