Charles Wesley

Charles Wesley (1707–1788), younger brother of John Wesley, wrote approximately 6,000 hymns. Born in Epworth, England, he studied at Oxford and experienced an evangelical conversion in 1738. His hymns cover the entire scope of Christian experience with extraordinary poetic skill. Among his greatest works are Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Christ the Lord Is Risen Today, Love Divine All Loves Excelling, and O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing.
