Charlotte Elliott (1789-1871) was a prominent English hymn writer and religious poet whose work profoundly influenced Victorian Protestant hymnody. Despite suffering from chronic illness that confined her to a sedentary life, she channeled her spiritual struggles into deeply personal and theologically rich poetry emphasizing divine grace and assurance of faith.
