Edward Caswall

Edward Caswall (1814-1878) was an English clergyman and hymnwriter who converted to Roman Catholicism in 1847 and became a priest of the Oratorian order. He authored and translated numerous hymns known for their poetic imagery, theological depth, and singability, contributing significantly to Catholic hymnody in the 19th century. Caswall's works include original compositions and translations from Latin, Greek, and other languages, enriching the English Catholic liturgical tradition. His hymns are characterized by their lyrical beauty and spiritual fervor, earning him recognition as one of the most prolific and accomplished Catholic hymnwriters of his era.
