French Traditional
French Traditional represents the anonymous body of nineteenth-century French carol writers whose individual identities were lost to history. These traditional authors created works that drew deeply from Christian folk traditions and popular piety of France during the 1800s. Their carols, including pieces set to melodies like GLORI, became embedded in French Christmas and liturgical celebrations. The lack of individual attribution reflects the communal and evolving nature of folk hymnody, where texts were modified and transmitted orally across generations.
