Friedrich Christian Weise (1641–1708) was a prominent German Baroque poet, dramatist, and educator who significantly influenced Protestant literary culture. As rector of the gymnasium in Weissenfels, he was instrumental in developing educational and cultural initiatives within the Lutheran tradition. Weise authored numerous hymn texts and sacred poetry that reflected the devotional aspirations of German Protestantism during the late Baroque period. His works combined theological substance with literary sophistication, contributing to the rich tradition of German chorale texts.
