Godfrey Thring (1823-1890) was an English Anglican clergyman and one of the most prolific hymn writers of the Victorian era. Serving as vicar of Alford in Somerset for over thirty years, he authored more than 300 hymns that became staples of English church worship. His hymns, characterized by their theological depth and lyrical quality, include notable works such as 'Fierce Raged the Tempest o'er the Deep' and 'Crown Him with Many Crowns.' Thring's contributions to Victorian hymnody were recognized through his collections and his influence on contemporary Anglican worship practices. His legacy remains significant in Christian hymnody, with many of his hymns continuing to appear in modern hymnals.
