Henry Fitz Lyte (1793-1847) was an English clergyman and prolific hymn writer of the 19th century, best known for composing 'Abide with Me,' one of the most beloved evening hymns in Christian worship. Serving as vicar of Lower Brixham in Devon for over three decades, Lyte was deeply committed to pastoral ministry and used hymnody as a tool for spiritual education and devotion. His compositions are characterized by poetic beauty, theological depth, and accessibility, reflecting the Evangelical Anglican tradition of his era.
