John Francis Wade

John Francis Wade (1711-1786) was an English Catholic musician and hymn writer who spent much of his life in exile in France during periods of Catholic persecution in England. He is best remembered as the author and composer of "Adeste Fideles" (O Come All Ye Faithful), one of the most beloved Christmas hymns in the Christian tradition. Wade worked as a music copyist and composer, contributing significantly to Catholic liturgical music during a time when Catholic worship faced restrictions in England.
