Karolina Wilhelmina Sandell-Berg (1832-1904) was a Swedish hymnwriter and poet whose prolific output earned her the epithet 'the Swedish Fanny Crosby.' Inspired profoundly by her father's serious illness during her youth, she channeled her spiritual experiences into over 650 hymns and poems that became central to Swedish Protestant worship. Her works, characterized by deeply personal faith and accessible melodies, reflected the pietistic traditions of 19th-century Scandinavian Protestantism. Among her most beloved compositions is 'Blott en dag' ('Only One Day'), a hymn that became widely known in English-speaking churches through translation. Sandell-Berg's legacy fundamentally shaped Swedish hymnody and influenced Christian worship throughout Scandinavia and beyond.
