Katharine Lee Bates

Katharine Lee Bates (1859-1929) was an American poet and professor at Wellesley College who made significant contributions to American Christian hymnody through her prolific poetic output. A devout Congregationalist, she authored over 700 poems, many of which were adapted for use as hymn texts in Protestant churches.
