Maltbie Davenport Babcock (1858–1901) was an American Presbyterian minister and hymnodist celebrated for his pastoral sensitivity and creative theological expression. Educated at Auburn Theological Seminary, he served as pastor of the Lockport Presbyterian Church in New York, where he became known for his devotional leadership and musical contributions. He is best remembered as the author of "This Is My Father's World," one of the most enduring and beloved hymns in Protestant worship, which reflects his deep appreciation for God's creation and spiritual optimism. His hymn texts are characterized by lyrical beauty, accessible theology, and a distinctly American Protestant sensibility. Though his life was cut short by illness at age 43, Babcock's hymnic legacy has ensured his lasting influence on Christian worship and American hymnody.
