Michael Weisse (1480-1534) was a Bohemian Brethren pastor and prolific hymnwriter who made substantial contributions to Protestant hymnal tradition during the Reformation era. Serving as a leader within the Unitas Fratrum (Unity of the Brethren), he composed and compiled numerous hymns that reflected the theological convictions and spiritual devotion of the early Reformation movement in Central Europe. Weisse's hymnal collections became foundational texts for the Bohemian Brethren's worship practices and influenced broader German Reformed hymnody. His work bridged Czech and German musical traditions, and his hymns were characterized by theological depth, poetic craftsmanship, and singability for congregational use.
