Nikolaus Speratus (1484-1551) was a German Lutheran pastor, theologian, and hymn writer who became a pivotal figure in the Protestant Reformation. He served as superintendent of the Protestant Church in Prussia and was a close collaborator with Martin Luther. Speratus composed several important Lutheran hymns, including the well-known 'Gott des Himmels und der Erden,' which became influential in German Protestant hymnody.
