Nicolai Selnecker

Nicolai Selnecker (1532–1592) was a prominent German Lutheran theologian, pastor, and hymnodist who studied under the renowned Reformation scholar Philipp Melanchthon. He served as superintendent of churches in Saxony, where he wielded considerable influence over ecclesiastical practice and musical worship. Selnecker composed numerous Lutheran hymns that reflected orthodox Protestant theology while maintaining musical accessibility for congregational singing. His works contributed significantly to the development of the Lutheran chorale tradition during the late Reformation period.
