Count Nikolaus Leonhard Zinzendorf (1700-1760) was a German pietist nobleman and bishop of the Moravian Church who became one of the most prolific hymn writers in Christian history, composing over 2,000 hymns. As a leader of the Moravian Brethren (Unitas Fratrum), he fostered a rich tradition of devotional music that emphasized personal faith, emotional warmth, and intimate communion with Christ. His hymns, characterized by their poetic depth and theological substance, significantly influenced Protestant hymnody across German-speaking regions and beyond. Zinzendorf's musical legacy established the Moravian Church as a major contributor to Christian worship, with his compositions continuing to appear in hymnals worldwide.
