Samuel Rodigast

Samuel Rodigast (1649-1708) was a German theologian and pastor who became a significant hymn writer during the pietistic renewal movement of the late 17th century. Following the devastation of the Thirty Years' War, he contributed to the spiritual revitalization of German Protestantism through his devotional poetry and hymn texts. His most famous hymn, "Ich hab mein Sach Gott heimgestellt" (I Have Committed All unto the Lord), became widely celebrated in Lutheran hymnody for its expression of trust and resignation to divine will. Rodigast's work exemplified the subjective, emotionally engaged piety characteristic of German Pietism, influencing the development of Protestant devotional music. His hymns remain part of German and Scandinavian Lutheran hymnals and continue to reflect the spiritual earnestness of post-war German Protestantism.
