Sigmund of Birken (1626-1681) was a German poet, diplomat, and Lutheran hymnodist who made significant contributions to Protestant devotional literature during the Baroque period. Serving as poet laureate and a member of the Pegnesischer Blumenorden literary society in Nuremberg, he authored numerous hymns and spiritual poems characterized by their contemplative depth and emotional intensity.
