Theodore Baker

Theodore Baker (1894–unknown) was an American hymnologist and translator who made significant contributions to Protestant hymnody in the twentieth century. He is best known for his work translating and adapting German and other European hymn texts into English, making important Continental hymns accessible to American congregations. Baker's translations were characterized by scholarly accuracy and poetic sensibility, helping to enrich the English-language hymn tradition with works from the broader Christian heritage. His efforts contributed to the ecumenical expansion of American Protestant worship during the mid-twentieth century.
