Thomas Chisholm (1866-1960) was an American Methodist pastor, journalist, and prolific hymn writer who composed approximately 1,200 hymn texts during his lifetime. Despite his significant contributions to hymnody, Chisholm remained largely humble and devoted to his pastoral calling, working as both a minister and editor for various Methodist publications. His most celebrated work is the hymn "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" (1923), written in collaboration with composer William M. Runyan, which has become one of the most beloved and enduring hymns of the modern era. Chisholm's hymns are characterized by their theological depth, accessibility, and emphasis on divine mercy and personal faith, reflecting the Methodist tradition's emphasis on personal conversion and moral living.
