Thomas Obadiah Chisholm (1866-1960) was an American Methodist minister and one of the most prolific hymn writers in Christian history, authoring over 1,200 hymn texts. His works, characterized by emphasis on personal faith experience, Christian assurance, and devotional warmth, became widely adopted in Methodist and evangelical Protestant churches throughout the 20th century. Among his most enduring contributions is "Great Is Thy Faithfulness," composed with music by William M. Runyan in 1923, which remains one of the most beloved modern hymns in American Christianity. Chisholm's hymns reflect the Methodist tradition's focus on individual spiritual experience and the assurance of God's grace, contributing significantly to the development of American evangelical hymnody.
