William Bright (1824-1901) was an eminent English Anglican bishop and hymnwriter who served as Bishop of Durham from 1856 until his death. He was a prolific composer of hymn texts characterized by theological sophistication and pastoral warmth, contributing significantly to Victorian Anglican hymnody. Among his well-known hymns are "And now, O Father, mindful of the love" and "Once in royal David's city," which remain popular in Anglican worship.
