Heinrich Suso (1295-1366) was a Dominican friar and mystic of the Rhineland region who profoundly influenced late medieval German spirituality through his devotional writings and visionary experiences. As a student of Meister Eckhart, Suso developed a distinctive mystical theology that emphasized affective piety and direct union with the divine, which found expression in both prose and poetic forms. His most significant contribution to Christian hymnody was through his devotional treatises and spiritual autobiography, which inspired numerous religious songs and shaped the lyrical tradition of German mysticism.
