English adaptation Martin H. Behm
Martin H. Behm was an American hymn translator and adapter active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Working within the Lutheran tradition, Behm contributed to the English hymnody movement by translating and adapting German hymns for American congregations. His translations helped make important works of continental Protestant hymnology accessible to English-speaking churches. Behm's work represented the broader efforts of American Lutheran musicians to preserve theological depth while accommodating the vernacular needs of immigrant and native-born congregants.
